Our focus story this week was a great story called The Napping House, by Dan and Audrey Wood. It's a delightful story about a family and their pets that all end up in bed on a rainy night - only to be woken up in a very startling manner all because of a little flea!
We also used this story to talk about characters in a book, and using pictures to help tell the story. We took a "picture walk" (browsing through the book without reading) to figure out where the story took place (setting), and when the story took place (at night, and in the morning). We also used the pictures to predict what was going to happen next. The illustrator gave us hints with his foreshadowing technique. The illustrations are very detailed and beautiful! Our preschoolers are getting very good at using picture clues for information!
This story has many repetitive phrases that allowed the children to join in and read along. What great readers we have! Be sure to ask your child about our story this week, and feel free to check out the video that goes along with the book! It's a great one!

Love this! Ethan's great grandmother read this story to him and Olivia this past summer. :) She spent many years reading to elementary students.

Thank you, Brittany! A couple years ago, I started blogging for the families that I work with to keep up on classroom happenings. Blogging has evolved so much since then - and is now a FABULOUS networking tool for teachers. I hope to begin to add some resources/printables for teachers now that I have some fellow educators following me. Check back often. I'm glad you found me and like my site. I'm following yours now, too!
